Some people have worked for the company for 20 years and there was resistance to change,” she explains. “But with the firm’s emphasis on improving customer service and the new legal requirements around working in public places, our employees had to learn how to do things in a different way, and that is why training is so important.”
Gaining new skills and knowledge to succeed in Learning and Development
As the learning and development co-ordinator of a London based family run cleaning services company with 800 employees, Andrea Osorio has experienced her fair share of challenges when implementing new training programmes.
Moving from HR to L&D
After moving to L&D from an HR position within the company, Andrea decided she needed a qualification to help her tackle the challenges of her new role. A Psychology graduate with a Masters in Human Resources from the University of Madrid, she opted for the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in L&D with Watson Martin Partnership, an active learning programme combining workshops with one-to-one sessions led by a dedicated adviser.
Now the proud recipient of a Level 5 Certificate and having achieved associate membership of the CIPD, Andrea can’t speak highly enough of her learning experience with Watson Martin Partnership and is grateful that her company agreed to fund the course.

As she was working full time, Andrea tended to use the weekends to focus on her studies. “All the time I was conscious of how important it was to get the qualification so I was very motivated and put all my efforts into succeeding,” she adds.
Preparing for the next challenge
Having completed her Level 5 qualification, Andrea is now equipped with the skills and knowledge to develop her career in L&D and, as a result is more confident in discussing new techniques with colleagues. Her professional network has grown after joining the local branch of the CIPD and she is looking forward to developing herself as a specialist in L&D, eventually studying for her Advanced Diploma!
