Celebrating our outstanding Personal Advisers!
Our advisers are very special individuals with an abundance of industry experience and a genuine interest in the development of others. Each one of them works hard to support their CIPD candidates through every step of their qualification. Our advisers really do ensure our business retains that personal touch, something we know candidates greatly value. Our showcase publicly recognises their contribution to your CIPD success!
We have asked Alisoun Nisbet, our regional consultant based in Edinburgh, for her advice to help you gain that all important CIPD qualification along with what she loves most about her job.
Alisoun’s top tip for CIPD success … Manage your time effectively right from the start of your programme.
Be realistic about blocking out your diary for studying and build in time to give yourself a pat on the back to celebrate achievements along the way. Regularly reflect on your learning throughout your programme. Think about the impact it has had on your work and how you have transferred what you have learnt in practice. By taking control, this will add value to your learning journey and help kick-start your career development.”

Approachable, amazing, brilliant, fantastic and an asset to Watson Martin! These are just some of the words our candidates use to describe Alisoun on the independent training review website Coursecheck! Which is not surprising, as with a career combining specialist HR and L&D practice with education, Alisoun certainly knows what it takes to help candidates become CIPD qualified!
Born in Canada to Scottish parents who emigrated in the 50s, Alisoun swapped the Rockies for Edinburgh and began her career as an HR generalist in local government before specialising in L&D working for the NHS. After a career break to start a family, she became an assessor for NVQs in customer service and later was able to apply her knowledge and experience to a new role as a lecturer at a Further Education College in Edinburgh where she taught on CIPD programmes in HR, L&D and Leadership Development for 15 years, including designing and delivering courses for the Scottish government. Positions with Stirling University Education as an L&D module lead and Avado as a Level 5 HR lead tutor followed before she joined Watson Martin in 2016.
A CIPD Chartered member and internal verifier, Alisoun works with both HR and L&D CIPD candidates at Foundation and Intermediate levels at Watson Martin. An expert in delivering online webinars, she is also one of the lead tutors for our HR and L&D apprenticeship programmes working with apprentices throughout the country.
Alisoun enjoys the variety of her role at Watson Martin, particularly its flexibility which allows her to keep an eye on the family dog Bonnie! She loves seeing her candidates and apprentices gain in confidence and move to the next level during their qualification and makes sure she keeps in touch via Linkedin to learn about their career progression. She also appreciates working with a solid team of people with great knowledge and experience.
