Watson Martin Partnership Candidate of the Quarter Award April 2018

Watson Martin Partnership’s first Candidate of the Quarter for 2018 is Martina Militello, who was recently awarded the CIPD Intermediate Diploma in Learning and Development. Italian born Martina who works as a Contact Centre trainer at The LEGO Group based in Slough, achieved her qualification well within the time allocated while submitting work of a consistently high standard. She was nominated for the award by her personal adviser Louise Hill who described her work as “excellent, demonstrating breadth of reading and referencing”.

After obtaining a Masters in Interpretation and Translation from the University of Westminster, Martina, who comes from Sicily and speaks four languages, joined The LEGO Group as a customer services adviser. She was promoted to an induction trainer in 2013 when her career in L&D began.

The role rapidly progressed to incorporate the personal development of all existing customer advisers. Learning on the job was useful but Martina realised her practical skills needed to be underpinned by theoretical knowledge and, with her manager’s support, she decided to study for a CIPD qualification in May 2016. After researching a number of providers she opted for Watson Martin Partnership because of the positive reviews and “really knowledgeable, friendly and professional advisers”.

Martina set herself deadlines for tackling each unit making time for research, reflection and then for writing the assignments. With a busy job, studying can prove difficult but Martina rose to the challenge with careful planning and organisation.

“I would describe the workload as busy but fair. It didn’t seem too much of a sacrifice as I am so passionate about the topic. It was really important for me to have the support of an adviser throughout the programme and I couldn’t have imagined completing it successfully without Louise. The workbooks and other resources were also an inspiration as so much material is out there you need a summary to get you started.”

Now Martina has the Level 5 Diploma under her belt, she has gained more confidence and has a broader knowledge base to progress her career and tackle new challenges. Next stop will be the CIPD Advanced Diploma and hopefully progression to becoming a training manager. We wish her the best of luck in achieving her goals.
