Employee disengagement and productivity slow down …

New research from Gallup reveals that only a tenth (11 per cent) of UK employees feel engaged at work while a fifth (21 per cent) are actively disengaged. With official figures also suggesting that the UK’s productivity has all but come to a standstill and is likely to remain weak for the next five years, it’s clear that business leaders need to do more to get the most out of their workforce.

Professional development is as an essential ingredient to successful employee engagement and structured professional development should be a top priority for employers. While many people enjoy the flexibility of online learning, companies are continuing to invest in training in house to ensure their employees benefit from sharing ideas and experiences.

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has invested in two floors of training rooms at its UK headquarters in London so that point-of-sale staff not only benefit from the content of the training, but feel part of the company. Familiar imagery and products are placed in the welcome areas outside the training rooms to encourage employees to feel connected to the brand they work for as well as the bigger parent company.

Watson Martin Partnership has recently revitalised its portfolio of in company training programmes to maximise organisational and individual performance. We now offer over 100 courses delivered in house by leading subject matter experts to help employees reach their full potential.

As a general rule, if you have three or more employees with similar learning needs, an in-company programme will be more efficient and cost effective for your business. Learning is usually delivered within your organisation although an external venue can be provided if this is preferred.

A wide range of courses are available from management qualifications through to improving personal effectiveness. All programmes can be tailored to the needs of your organisation incorporating company data and case studies.

A CIPD approved centre since 2004, Watson Martin Partnership also offers HR and L&D programmes in-company. The CIPD Advanced Diploma is currently delivered to HR graduates at a number of organisations including Centrica, the UK’s largest energy supplier and WMP was involved in creating a 20 week programme called HR Fundamentals to build HR capability throughout ASDA.
