Congratulations to Meriel Cartwright who is named as WMP’s first Candidate of the Quarter after achieving a distinction in the recent Leading, Managing and Developing People (LMP) examination. Meriel, an HR Support Partner at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was selected after her outstanding performance in the module, one of eight which make up the CIPD Advanced Diploma in HR Management.
Watson Martin Partnership’s Candidate of the Quarter award recognises the hard work and personal dedication of individuals who go the extra mile to achieve qualification success.
“Meriel combines studying with managing a busy full time job and caring for her young family and is a model student,” says her adviser Melinda Allison.
Here Meriel explains why she decided to study for the Diploma and her views of the programme so far:
“Having changed career to work in HR five years ago, I wanted to build on the experience I had gained in the sector and back up my HR practice with sound theory and a professional qualification. I chose Watson Martin Partnership because their Active Learning route allowed me to work in a group setting, which suits my learning style, while offering the flexibility I needed to balance the programme with a full time job and young family.
I have really appreciated being able to set my own pace throughout the course and choose when I sit the exams. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how directly relevant the content of the CIPD HRM qualification is to my work as an HR Support Partner, and I’m finding plenty of opportunities to put the models and techniques I have learnt about into practice in a business setting.
“My tutor, Melinda, has been fantastic throughout. Her breadth of knowledge covers practice across all sectors, so she always has a perspective to bring which will challenge my views and encourage me to think about the broader picture. Melinda’s experience of supporting students through the programme means she knows when I might need a nudge in the right direction, or some encouragement to feel confident.
“It had been a while since I had sat a written exam and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but WMP provided excellent guidance and support. The workshops for introduction to module content and revision preparation were exceptionally well designed and delivered. Both workshops were interactive, and the chance to participate allowed me to develop confidence talking about the core topics, and crucially helped me to apply my knowledge to address the learning outcomes in the exam. The VLE materials have been thoughtfully compiled and allowed easy access to further reading which meant I could deepen my understanding of the subject and give context to my answers.
“I’m delighted with my result and can’t recommend WMP enough, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the team for their dedication and commitment to helping their students achieve.”
